Menston Heritage Group

The Menston 2025 Heritage Group was set up in the Autumn of 2022, in response to Bradford being awarded the City of Culture for 2025.  Each ward in the Bradford District is being encouraged to contribute in some way and our idea is to set up a Menston Heritage Trail.  We hope to do this via QR codes that link to various interesting facts within the village whether they relate to a person or a place.  Are you aware of the Sooty and Lassie connections, the textile industry as well as the West Yorkshire Pauper Lunatic Asylum?

So we will be working on innovative ways of presenting the information from Cup and Ring Stones to the changes due to take place at the station.  

The City of Culture themes are: 

City of the World- Bradford as a melting pot.

Coming of Age – next generation thinking/science/stories.

Everything is connected- art and science not just arts and culture

“Welcome Home Sexy”- spirit of warmth and friendship.

 We anticipate that the trail could be accessed from the station to encourage use of pubic transport and it may be possible to undertake guided trails as well

 We also have the opportunity to set up an archive room  for Menston history in the library so that is ongoing action related to this.
